I would be interested in an art critique of this painting:

What do you think that flower might mean? Was it the elephant's touch?

I'm a bit skeptical, compare with this elephant painting.

The elephants attended art class, just like humans do. So they are trained to some extent. But not to the point that every brush stroke could be robotically controlled. Each one has their own technique their own vision.

I know! Full acceptance is mind-blowing. I still cannot deal with it. It has smudged my world-view. I have to rethink!!

Check out the related videos on the side panel. They give you more paintings from other elephants. Each one a virtuoso performance!.

I'll grant that the elephants could paint. I'd say animals can think quite deeply. Unkindly, many years ago, I once took aim at a dog I had. That dog understood very well the meaning of having a gun pointed at it; the dog flinched very noticeably.

I wonder if these elephants can express anything though their style, or if the painting classes kill all their creativity and expressiveness?

Serge,

I would say that the colorful flower represents value, beauty or meaning. The elephant is speaking to the people who care for the elephants. I doubt they go around carrying flowers very much. So what the artist is saying is that its trunk is its instrument for making good things to happen.

We have to wonder does the elephant really feel that way about his trunk; or is he mocking the trainers by saying "Is this all you value me for? Or is it a picture of his mental understanding of his relationship to man? The bond for good things between us through the use of what his trunk can do.

Serge,

The story deepens!

Thanks for the “meanings” of flowers table. Interesting! To bad they did not have Hibiscus.

So I did some googling on flowers of India and came up with the Hanuman. It is related to the Hibiscus but is more orange.

The glowing complexion of the orange-skinned Hanuman is also compared to this flower [hibiscus]

When I tracked down “Hunaman” I stumbled into these delightful animations on youtube

This is great, artistically speaking.

The flower is not an "Elephant flower",

Here is Hibiscus in India,

"Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis), a tropical flower, belongs to the family Malvaceae. It gets its name from the Greek words Hibiscus meaning "mallow" and rosa-sinensis meaning "rose of China".

If you receive Hibiscus flower might suggest, "Seize this opportunity."

The Name Hibiscus is a girl's name with the meaning(s) " Marshmallow flowering plant found in the moors." and is Latin in origin.
Hibiscus has the following similar or variant Names: Hibyscus Hybyscus"

This does not sound right. I can't see YouTube at the moment, Hunaman is (sort-of) a monkey, and orange.

An Indian meaning looks like it would be more fruitful, at the elephant painting link site it reads,

"Watch this elephant, rescued from abusive treatment in Burma..."

Hibiscus does grow in Myanmar. Perhaps it is propaganda art, like the YouTube link is?
